Embracing Equity

March is Women’s History Month, a time to celebrate the achievements of women who have fought for equality in the workforce and acknowledge the progress made. However, while women’s representation in the workforce has significantly improved, there is still a long way to go. For example, only 28% of employees in the tech industry are women, and across all industries, only 36% of women hold leadership positions.

To address this disparity, this year’s International Women’s Day theme is #EmbraceEquity, which emphasizes recognizing each person’s unique circumstances and allocating resources and opportunities needed to achieve equal outcomes. In honor of this theme, IQBG has asked its team how they intend to #EmbraceEquity this year, and here are some of the responses:

Speak Up: If you see a female colleague who may be struggling to make their voice heard or whose contributions may not be getting their due, lend them your voice.

Ask Questions: Making space for conversation to ask and listen can help bridge the gap between equality and equity.

Create a Safe Space: In safe spaces, ensure everyone has the opportunity to have their voices heard, and encourage those who need a little extra support.

Continue Learning: Learning where to connect with talent and how to create an equitable interview process that embraces diversity is key.

Be Yourself: Focus on your values and traits and reflect on your style, which can lead to positive leadership.

Consider Future Generations: It’s not just about creating opportunities for women now but setting the stage for a future in which they are already inherent.

By implementing these actions and continuing to push for equity in the workplace, we can empower women to thrive in technology and beyond. It’s time to embrace equity and challenge the status quo to create a brighter, more inclusive future for all.
